Jennifer Appollo Jennifer Appollo, Practice Administrator

Practice administrator and veterinary assistant Jennifer Appollo joined us at the West Office almost three years ago, in March of 2010, and has been working professionally with animals for the past 11 years. Jennifer assists the doctors, takes radiographs, answers clients' calls and schedules appointments. Jennifer has a certificate in surgical technology and she also has an associate's degree in arts and science.

"I love the staff members that I work with and the clients and their pets are wonderful," Jennifer said.

She has two dogs, California and Jack, a cat named Roxanne, a horse named Buckshot, a pony named Blaze and a snake called Rio. Jennifer is a fan of horseback riding, hiking, baking and reading.

Anna Weldon Anna T. Weldon, RVT, LVT

Anna is a full-time Veterinary Technician here at Asheville Veterinary Associates. She has over 30 years of experience in the animal care field and joined our team in January of 2012. Anna graduated from the State University of New York-Delhi with an AAS in Veterinary Technology. She has been a licensed veterinary technician in the state of NY since 1989 and a registered veterinary technician in NC since 2007.

Some of Anna’s job responsibilities include client education, all aspects of radiology, operating room/post-op care, venipuncture, and catheterization. Her extreme focus and work ethic make her a great asset to our team. Anna is a proud member of both the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and the North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians (NCAVT).

In her free time, Anna enjoys hiking, biking, and riding horses with her husband. She has two dogs named Indy and Pete, along with a cat named Rue.

Sarah Hess Sarah Hess, Registered Veterinary Technician

Sarah Hess began working at Asheville Veterinary Associates in January 2014, but she's been employed in the veterinary field since 2000. She attended AB Technical College, receiving an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology and graduating with high honors. Sarah also went on to become licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician. At Asheville Veterinary Associates, Sarah's duties include monitoring anesthesia, assisting doctors in exams and surgeries, performing dental prophylaxis, filling medications, educating clients, and managing inventory. Her favorite parts of the job are educating clients about pets' behaviors and preventative medicine, as well as cleaning dogs' teeth. She finds satisfaction in many different aspects of her job.

"I absolutely love working here," Sarah says. "Asheville Veterinary Associates has great staff and doctors, and everyone here loves what they do and coming to work each day. Good medicine is practiced here, and everyone is very passionate about what they do. It's the best place I've ever worked."

At home Sarah is the pet parent to two dogs, named Butters and Peanut, and two cats, named Triscuit and Bucky. In her free time, she enjoys going hiking, exploring new areas and traveling, and spending quality time with her family.

Melanie Payne Melanie Payne, Registered Veterinary Technician

Melanie is one of our hard-working Registered Veterinary Technician who thoroughly enjoys interacting with our clients and their pets. She loves being able to answer questions and educate them on ways to improve their pets’ livelihoods and health. Melanie is a very patient person who takes time to consider all different angles and approaches.

Education has always been important to Melanie. She is a graduate of Warren Wilson College for undergraduate studies and also of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College with an associate degree in Veterinary Medical Technology. She is a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of North Carolina and loves her profession.

Some of Melanie’s responsibilities at Asheville Veterinary Associates include taking note of patient history and records, administering blood draws and other lab work, and providing the highest levels of patient care. Melanie also assists our team and doctors however needed to ensure our patients achieve the best results. She also helps by performing dental procedures, educating our clients about our services and the care their pets are receiving, stellar customer service, and much more!

“I like being able to interact with the clients and getting to know them and their pets better,” Melanie says. “At other hospitals, the veterinary technicians and staff don’t interact much with clients, unlike how we operate here.”

In her spare time Melanie volunteers for Asheville Humane Society. She has 3 dogs, a Corgi Mix named Madison, a Lab Mix named Delacey, and a Dachshund and Shepherd Mix named Gibbon. Melanie also owns two domestic long hair cats named Taz and Charles. She loves going for hikes, walking, bike riding, and camping. Melanie also loves to read and spend time with her husband and their two daughters.

Melanie Stanley Melanie Stanley, Veterinary Assistant & Office Manager

Melanie assists with client education, staff training and managing the office. She loves helping take care of the patients and has endless compassion for animals paired with great enthusiasm for education. Melanie has over twenty years of experience as a vet tech and even worked at an emergency clinic for three years. Working at Asheville has by far been her favorite, as everyone treats each other like family – colleagues, pet parents and pet patients alike! Melanie once made a trip to Costa Rica to help run a three-day spay/neuter clinic. At home she has two dogs – Tully and Tallulah, four cats – Jemma, Winston, Sherman and Allen and various chickens and ducks. In her spare time, you can find her hiking, reading or practicing yoga.

Noah Lindgren Noah Lindgren,
Veterinary Assistant &Office Manager

Veterinary Assistant and Office Manager Noah Lindgren joined our team in March of 2015, bringing 20+ years of experience in the animal care field. He performs a variety of procedures, including lab work, x-rays, vaccinations, and anesthetic monitoring, as well as aiding in client education. Noah is very knowledgeable of wild and exotic animals from his years of experience in the field. He most enjoys learning about new procedures, diseases, and medicines.

"AVA is a high-quality practice that provides great care and allows its employees to learn and grow," he said.

Noah has a cat, Olive, and a dog named Finn with which he frequents the parks of Asheville. In his free time, Noah enjoys biking and swimming in waterfalls.

Jaclyn Burchell Jaclyn Burchell, Veterinary Assistant

Working as one of our phenomenal Veterinary Assistants here at Asheville Veterinary Associates Jaclyn Burchell helps ensure our practice runs smoothly. Some of her daily responsibilities include venipuncture, performing lab work, running analysis on fecal, urine, ear cytology, and more! Jaclyn also helps by administering x-ray diagnostics and with restraining patients as needed. The aspect of her job that Jaclyn finds most enjoyable is being able to practice parasitology and conveying client education in an understandable and personable way.

Since joining our incredible team in June of 2007 Jaclyn has shown to be a valuable asset to our organization, our clients, and our patients. She is an understanding pet-lover who is always happy to educate our clients about their pets’ specific health needs. Jaclyn also provides volunteer work for Asheville Humane Society and fosters for their organization.

“I love working for Asheville Veterinary Associates because I work with wonderful and caring people and doctors,” Jaclyn proclaims. “I know that the animals are going to get the best care possible.”

Jaclyn is typically busy with providing optimal care to animals in need, but in her spare time she loves to go camping or swimming. She also can be found attending local concerts, painting, or baking. At home, Jaclyn owns a Pit Bull named Nova, a Pitt Bull/Greyhound mix named Capone, a Chinese Crested canine named Biscotti, and a domestic short hair cat named Big Boy Barnaby.

Jason Adrian Rodriguez Jason Adrian Rodriguez, Veterinary Assistant

Jason is a full-time Veterinary Assistant here at Asheville Veterinary Associates. He loves contributing to our team and helping clients “rejoice in the process of pet parenthood.” Some of his many job responsibilities include carrying out DVM orders, assisting during surgery, educating clients, radiology, and providing our patients with excellent care and customer service. Jason has a B.A. in Forensic Psychology and is currently enrolled at ABTECH working towards a B.A. in Science. Jason is proud to work in an environment where clients are treated like friends, their furry loved ones are treated like family, and the voices of employees are always welcomed and appreciated.

At home, Jason cares for 4 furry loved ones of his own, Marley, Pepper Pig, Pacino, and Pancake. Jason loves spending his free time with his wife Carol Ann, biking, hiking, exercising, and swimming. Jason refers to himself as an opportunistic optimist that loves laughing and taking in all of the joyous pleasures that his journey in veterinary medicine have to offer.

Trisha Mead Trisha Mead, Veterinary Assistant

Trisha assists in starting exam rooms to discuss issues and preventative care, prescriptions refills, educating clients, getting lab samples and caring for pets. She enjoys drawing blood, running labs and is incredibly talented in handling cats. She has her BS in Wildlife Biology and is studying to become an RVT. At home she has three dogs – Addie, Beau, Roxie and three cats – Meeko, Zoey and Callie. She loves how caring and understanding the whole team is at AVA. In her spare time, you can find her gardening, hiking and crafting.

Olivia Mathes Olivia Mathes,
Registered Veterinary Technician

Asheville Veterinary Associates welcomed Olivia as one of our outstanding Registered Veterinary Technicians in April of 2018. She has since been involved with taking detailed records and patient history, drawing blood samples and processing different lab work, and providing optimal patient care. What Olivia likes doing best is getting to know our clients and their pets while providing them with the best care imaginable, and being able to see the difference she can make in a patient’s health.

Olivia is licensed in the state of North Carolina and possesses a degree in Veterinary Medical Technology. She has been working in the animal related field since 2016 and has prior experience as a Kennel Assistant and AB Veterinary Technician. Olivia is great with animals and humans and loves serving as a liaison between the two.

At home Olivia continues her love of caring for animals by looking after the pets of own. She has several aquariums of freshwater tropical fish and loves to appreciate the beauty of aquatic life. Olivia also owns 2 dogs, a Havanese Mix named Chloe and a Chiweenie named Teddy. Her love for pets does not stop there as she also looks after two cats, named Neyteri and Clementine, an Axoloti named Rose, and 4 rats.

Emily Cromwell Emily Cromwell, Assistant

Emily assists the vets during appointments, lab tests, filling prescriptions and cleaning. She loves helping the hospital in any way she can and loves when cat patients come through the doors! She brings in chicken eggs for the staff from her own coop and likes singing to the animals to make sure they are happy and calm. She received her BFA from the University of Michigan. At home she has many ducks, geese and chickens. She also has three cats – Blossom, Gracie and Tyson and four horses – Gonk, Rosie Jo, Ginger and Rio. In her spare time, she loves horseback riding.

Laura Peck Laura Peck, Veterinary Nurse

Veterinary Nurse Laura Peck is responsible for assisting our veterinarians during appointments, running lab work, taking radiographs, performing dental cleanings, and administering anesthesia for our surgical patients.

With 13 years of experience in an animal-related field, Laura joined our team in January 2015. Interestingly, she completed a summer internship at a wildlife rehabilitation center after earning her Bachelor's degree in Biology. She found the experience both educating and interesting, as it allowed her to "care for some very unique animals" - bears, river otters, and bald eagles!

Laura most enjoys assisting in surgery and interacting with our clients. She says: "From the day I interviewed for the job, I knew this was a special hospital I wanted to be a part of."

At home Laura has an eight-year-old Staffordshire Terrier named Tiny Bubbles and a five-year-old orange tabby cat named Todd.

"I have been referred to as the cat whisperer in the past as I seem to handle cats well and enjoy feline medicine," she says.

In her spare time, Laura enjoys hiking with Tiny Bubbles, fishing, reading, cooking, and gardening.

Colleen Salter Colleen Salter, Veterinary Nurse

Colleen helps maintain the pharmacy and prescriptions, assists the veterinarians and lab work. She loves running the pharmacy and has experience both with human and pet pharmacies! She has been working in animal-related fields since 2007, and in the past has worked for the ASPCA. At home she has one dog named Addie. She loves working at our hospital and loves that everyone is like family and everyone has a sense of belonging.

Holly Ann Jones Holly Ann Jones, Receptionist/Veterinary Nurse

Holly Ann works full-time at Asheville Veterinary Associates, as both a receptionist and veterinary nurse. She is currently enrolled at Penn Foster working towards a degree in Veterinary Medical Technology. Holly is one of the first smiling faces you see upon entering the hospital. She loves working with people and contributing to the overall organization of the office.

At home, Holly cares for 8 pets of her own! They include 3 dogs (Faith, Jake, & Waylon), 1 cat (Salem), 2 pigs, 2 horses (Colt & Buckshot), and a skunk named Lula. Holly enjoys spending her free time with all of her animals, gardening, riding horses, reading, and tending to her farm. She also enjoys hunting, fishing, yard sale shopping, and crafting.

Jody Pumroy Jody Pumroy, Receptionist

Jody joined the Asheville Veterinary Associates team in October of 2009. She works full-time as a receptionist, welcoming clients, scheduling appointments, and answering product questions. Prior to joining our staff, Jody worked as both a groomer and veterinary assistant.

In her free time, Jody enjoys reading and spending time with her family. Jody fosters Newfoundlands for the Newfie Rescue organization and currently has 8 pets of her own. They include 4 dogs (Romeo, Angel, Barnaby, & Mousse), 3 cats (Desiree, Binx, & Bob), and a jenday conure (parakeet) named Spike.

Stephanie Wallin Stephanie Wallin, Receptionist

Stephanie is a full-time receptionist here at Asheville Veterinary Associates. She is new to a career in animal care and is enjoying getting to know our clients and their pets while learning a new field. Some of Stephanie’s responsibilities include greeting clients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking clients in and out, filing, and preparing charts.

At home, Stephanie cares for one cat of her own, a beautiful 12-year-old Calico cat named Delilah. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys attending concerts, plays, and other live entertainment. She also enjoys roller skating, ice skating, and taking nature walks.

Chelsey Havekes Chelsey Havekes, Client Services

Chelsey works full-time at Asheville Veterinary Associates, providing our clients with excellent care and service. Some of her responsibilities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, and assisting clients. She loves communicating with our clients and providing them with the information they need to best care for their pets. Chelsey has felt like part of the Asheville Vet family since her first day and is “proud to be part of this dynamic team that provides such excellent care!”

Chelsey has over 17 years of experience working in various animal shelters and hospitals. At home, Chelsey provides care for several pets of her own. She has 2 chinchillas (Gidget & Lil Mac), a blue tongue skink named Tillie, a cat named Jackson, millipedes, isopods, and 120 fish! When she isn’t working, Chelsey enjoys wood burning crafts, art, reading, hiking, kayaking, and aquascaping. Chelsey also enjoys spending time with her animals, traveling, scuba diving, and volunteering.
